Detectives investigating an attempted burglary in Sunderland have released an image of a man who they would like to trace.

At about 10.30pm on October 9, Northumbria Police officers received a report of an attempted burglary at an address on Cairo Street in Hendon.

It was reported that a suspicious male appeared outside of the victim’s front door and tried the handle, before then unsuccessfully attempting to use physical force to open the door. He made off empty-handed.

An investigation is ongoing into the incident and officers have now identified a man who they would like to speak to in connection with the attempted burglary.

He was seen in the area at the time and could have valuable information that can assist the investigation.

The man was caught on CCTV at the scene

A spokesperson for the Force has urged anybody with information regarding the man to come forward.

"The man, or anyone who recognises him, is asked to contact police via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website or by calling 101 quoting crime number 111482J/21.

"Alternatively you can email [email protected]"
