Casemiro has praised Liverpool after helping Real Madrid knock the Reds out of this season's Champions League.

Needing to overturn a 3-1 first leg deficit, Jurgen Klopp 's side exited the competition at the quarter-finals stage following a 0-0 draw on Wednesday night.

Having missed a number of good chances on the night, Liverpool were ultimately unable to find a way past goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois during a tightly-fought encounter.

But despite the Reds failing to produce a trademark European comeback, Casemiro, who clashed with Andy Robertson and was booked for a wild challenge on James Milner during the match, admitted Liverpool made things difficult for Zinedine Zidane's side.

"We knew it was going to be difficult, especially because of the rival we had," Casemiro said to Movistar, cited by Marca after the final whistle.

"It’s difficult to play here but the team’s work has been fantastic.

"Today, everyone did their job. We knew we had the advantage but we played to win.

"They have a lot of intensity and a great coach, but the key lies in the work, and that’s what has determined the qualification.

"There’s no favourite (in the semi-final). We’re thinking about the next game in La Liga."
