A massive search is underway for a missing Scots boy after he was reported missing last night.

A huge amount of emergency service resources including helicopters and dog teams joined the hunt overnight after little Carson Shephard, 7, vanished from Afton Bridgend in New Cumnock, Ayrshire last night.

Local search parties were also organised.

Carson last spotted

Ayrshire police say the little boy was last seen in the Afton Bridgend area of the village at around 7.20pm on Sunday night before then being reported missing.

Carson is around 3ft 6in tall, has short dark brown hair, and is of slim build.

He was last known to be wearing dark blue jeans, a t-shirt and a black top.

Appeal launched

At around 10.20pm police launched a desperate social media appeal as there had been no sign of the youngster for hours.

The force urged members of the public to check garages and sheds for any sign of Carson.

A statement issued by police read: "A police statement issued online reads: "Carson Shepherd age 7 Missing from 22 Afton Bridgend New Cumnock Urge Public to check garden sheds, gardens, garages and not to assume someone else has done it – right now 2220hrs."

Locals rally as huge search launched

With night setting in and still no sign of Carson police and the fire service stepped up efforts overnight.

A police helicopter took to the Ayrshire skies to scan the ground below for any sign of the young boy, while specialist sniffer dogs also joined the massive search.

On the waters specialist police marine and Scottish Fire and Rescue units also joined but tragically could find no trace of Carson.

Local search parties were also organised with some residents reporting being out all night looking for the child.

Hunt continues for Carson

Early this morning police updated the public on the massive search efforts overnight and issued a description to help find the boy.

The story reaches across Scotland and the UK as all major media outlets report on the efforts and the Ayrshire Police appeal is shared more than 38,000 times.

Carson is still missing at the time of writing and the search for him is ongoing.
