Merseyside Police have seized a car for forensic examination after the driver failed to stop for officers.
It was spotted being driven at high speed in the L9 area of Liverpool - and officers suspect it has been stolen and used to commit crimes.
In a Tweet sent out at 1.55am today (Thursday) the force's Roads Policing Unit said the vehicle drove off and was later found abandoned.
It said: "Vehicle sighted at high speed L9 area then failed to stop for Police.
"Found abandoned a short time later on false plates.
"Vehicle seized for forensics on suspicion of being stolen and used in crime."
