Caprice Bourett's controversial split from professional Dancing On Ice partner Hamish Gaman was over something 'big', Jeremy Vine has claimed.

The Channel 5 talk show host noted their public fallout was "catastrophic", leading to ITV bosses agreeing to allow Caprice to pair up with Oscar Peter from this Sunday.

"I think falling out with your partner on a dance show has to be catastrophic," Jeremy said to DoI contestant Ben Hamlin on his show this morning.

"Because that's like, they're saving a drowning person, if you don't like them you're going to drown."

He went on: "I don't understand what's gone on there but whatever it is, it's big.

"Isn't showbiz all about faking it sometimes? Can't they pretend?"

Ben appeared to agree, adding: "She's a dark horse in this competition, she's very, very good so best of luck to her."

Neither Caprice nor Hamish have yet publicly confirmed the circumstances surrounding their explosive row, but ITV chiefs have denied any speculation of bullying.

"I was a very, very, very ambitious young girl," she once said. "I wanted to be governor of California or own a chain of hotels. I want to earn quadrillions."

She added: "It's really hard, when so many people around you are telling you how amazing you are, not to start believing a little too much of your own hype.

"My ego was getting... out of control. I cringe when I look at the diva I was."

In her autobiography My Boys, My Body, My Business, she wrote: "I used to make my PA call up a club and say, 'Caprice wants to come to the club tonight, we want 10 bottles of vodka, we're bringing 10 people and we want it for free'. Sometimes they said no and she'd do the whole, 'Do you know who we’re talking about?' I mean!"
