DEAR DEIDRE: I’M longing to go to my friend’s birthday celebration weekend in Cornwall next month. I know we are under lockdown, but I’m fed-up.
I’ve missed four different 50th birthday celebrations among old university friends.

My team and I are working safely from home but we are here to help you as always.
It’s my best friend’s birthday this time and she’s invited three of us to celebrate with her. She’s determined it’s going ahead.
My partner is 52 and I’m 49.
He’s anti-social anyway but says I’d be a fool to go.
I visited my sister once when lockdown rules were eased and went to a restaurant with my other half for our anniversary in July.
That’s it – I’ve done nothing else.
My friends insist “nobody will know” and that I’ll miss a great weekend if I don’t make the effort to go.
But then I’ve got my partner saying, “Don’t bring Covid-19 back to this house”.

DEIDRE SAYS: Something else is telling you not to go, otherwise you wouldn’t be asking my opinion.
our partner is right – you really must not go.
The Government plan is to vaccinate every adult by the autumn, so I’d implore you to stick to the rules.
By ignoring the restrictions, more people will die. It’s that simple.
Tell the others you’d rather postpone the celebrations.
It’s disappointing but if one of you caught Covid-19 or even died as a result, you’d never forgive yourselves.
