Eleven neighbourhoods in East Staffordshire are above the national covid infection rate, latest figures have revealed.

A total of 11 of the 15 neighbourhoods recorded by StaffordshireLive are above the current national infection rate, which is 440.3 per 100,000 people, according to Public Health England.

Among the worst is Winshill which has an infection rate of 780.5 and another 67 people testing positive. Its rate is more than 75 per cent higher than the national average.

Abbots Bromley, Yoxall & Marchington, is also still high, with an infection rate of 647.4, and another 56 people testing positive for the potentially deadly virus.

It comes as a new strain of the virus, Omicron, was identified days ago by researchers in South Africa and much is still not known about it, including whether it is more contagious, more likely to cause serious illness or more able to evade the protection of vaccines.

Here are the the latest Government figures for every neighbourhood in East Staffordshire.

The data covers the seven days up to November 24 and shows how many new cases there have been and how that number has changed compared to the previous week, as the number of infections per 100,000 people, for each neighbourhood.

It is organised in the following format - Neighbourhood: Number of infections (infection rate); Change compared to the previous week (percentage change).

Uttoxeter Town: 33 (472.7); 11 (50%)

Rolleston-on-Dove & Tutbury: 56 (571.5); -2 (-3.4%)

Burton Central: 56 (451.8); 11 (24.4%)

Burton Shobnall: 26 (305.5); 6 (30%) BLUE

Mayfield, Rocester & Bramshall: 40 (519.8); 0 (0%)
