Bull escapes from school and goes on the run

A steer has made its great escape from a Sydney boys’ school and is leading authorities on a wild bull chase in the city.

The one-year-old black bull broke through a fence at Sain Ignatius’ College Riverview in Lane Cove on Tuesday night.

By Thursday morning, it was still on the run and school officials told local media there has been no firm information on its whereabouts despite a reported sighting on Centennial Avenue in the suburb of Lane Cove West.

The animal arrived at the school on Monday night to be used as part of the college’s agricultural program.

The school said in a statement on its Facebook page: “The College has concerns regarding the welfare and safety of the animal as well as concerns for any potential injury that may be caused to any member of the local community which may be incurred due to the steer roaming in a highly urbanised area.

“The College welcomes support from the local community in providing any information regarding the animal’s location so that we may safely collect and return him to the Riverview Farm.”

New South Wales Police confirmed to Australian broadcaster 9News that the animal had been reported missing, but said locating the young bull is up to the council and the RSPCA.

The Independent has contacted RSPCA NSW for comment.

The streets if Sydney appear to be popular among wild or escaped animals. Earlier this month, two wild deer were seen roaming around the suburbs of Leichhardt, Balmain and Annandale. One of the deer was put down due to poor health.

In February, three baboons escaped from the truck they were being transported in to a hospital in Sydney. One of them was due for a vasectomy. All three were recaptured just over an hour after reports of sightings emerged.
