Manchester United are exploring the possibility of signing Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon during the January transfer window.

The Reds were linked with the 25-year-old last summer but expressed their 'irritation' at planted stories in the Portuguese media about the attacking midfielder.

But amid injuries to Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba and an indifferent Premier League campaign, United's need for a creative midfielder with a penchant for goals has been made all too clear.

This has led to the club reigniting their interest in the playmaker but a deal is far from being completed at this stage.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been unwilling to confirm that United are working on a deal, with the player having signed a new contract at Sporting last November.

But this hasn't stopped the interest and speculation building and that will likely reach fever pitch this evening when Fernandes potentially takes the field against Benfica (9:15pm UK time).

Stick with us as we provide live updates below on United's interest in Fernandes ahead of a chance for fans to take a look this evening at who could turn out to be their new signing.
