Brothers raise over £350 for school mental health project

Two brothers have raised £350 for their school walking 50 miles in May.

Leland Braysford, eight, and Nikolai Braysford, six, fundraised £360 for their school, Baxenden St John's Primary School, to help them build a nurture room.

The school began fundraising for a mental health room, which they will call the Beehive project, earlier this year and the brothers wanted to help.

The boys' mum, Emma Hitton said: “I’m incredibly proud – it’s amazing.

“My youngest is six and for him to be able to walk all that way.

“We did have some bad days where they didn’t want to do it but they persevered and achieved it.”

The boys walked around reservoirs, around Baxenden and between Accrington and Haslingden over the month, finishing the challenge on the final day of the month, walking 50.1 miles.

Headteacher Julie Green said: “I would like to thank everyone in our school family and community who have supported Leland and Nikolai in their endeavour.

“Our Beehive is going to be a wonderful place where children can take time out and nurture their social and emotional needs.

“I am overwhelmed by the response from our pupils, who are inventing their own ways of raising money to support us.”

The school are hoping to raise £10,000 by summer 2022 to build the room and provide the necessary training for the staff members.
