Bridgerton posts first look at new season 2 family The Sharmas – but fans have one big issue

FANS around the world are eagerly awaiting the return of Netflix’s smash hit period drama Bridgerton - and now the streaming giant has upped the anticipation.

Releasing a photo of season two’s new arrivals, the all-female Sharma family, Netflix sent viewers of the Regency romp into overdrive.

Fan favourite Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh) seems to be presenting the Sharmas to London society in the image.

Sisters Kate Sharma (Sex Education’s Simone Ashley), Mary Sharma (Terra Nova and Mistresses actress Shelley Conn) and youngest sibling Edwina (newcomer Charithra Chandran) look set to stir up trouble.

Viewers have already seen a trailer where heartthrob Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) is intrigued by strong willed Kate.

Fans can also expect that Mary - an Earl’s daughter whose marriage once embroiled her family in scandal – will bring the drama.

Kate is described as a smart, headstrong London newcomer “who suffers no fools — Anthony very much included.” Conflict arises, as readers of the Bridgerton novels know, because Anthony is supposed to marry Edwina, but he has more chemistry with Kate.

Meanwhile, some picky fans took issue online with the new cast members’ costumes.

“Surely they could have got more interesting costumes for the girls? They changed their last name and ethnicity, at least get them costumes that stand out from the rest and make it a bit interesting? These look like daphne’s recycled ones,” tweeted one.

“So the ‘Sharma’ family rocks up – pretty much – wearing the wardrobe of last season’s cast … yay for originality!” griped another.

"The wardrobe could have been a lot more adventurous with the changing times. Surely even this fictitious era can't be stuck in a time warp."

A fellow tweeter hit back though, writing: “Do you...not know how period clothing works...?”

Bridgerton season 1 is available to stream on Netflix now.
