Several buildings have collapsed in Turkey after a powerful earthquake hit the country.

Multiple people are feared to be injured.

The earthquake could be felt in several parts of neighbouring Syria and in Lebanon, in the cities of Beirut and Tripoli.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said the earthquake measured 6.9 and struck eastern Turkey.

Aid workers have rushed to the scene.

People ran for their lives

The quake had a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), according to EMSC.

Terrifying videos on social media show buildings shaking and every item inside a house wobbling and falling down.
