Police have cordoned off Battersea Power Station in central London due to a serious "security alert".

There are reports that a "suspicious package" has been found in the area.

People have been told to avoid the area and roads have been blocked off.

Wandsworth Police tweeted: “Large police presence at Nine Elms, SW8 dealing with an incident at Battersea Power Station.

“Please avoid Nine Elms and Wandsworth Road.”

Transport for London tweeted: "Nine Elms Lane at the junction of Wandsworth Road. The road is closed due to an emergency services incident. Use an alternative route.

"Expect delays."

Police have now reopened Nine Elms Lane at the junction of and Wandsworth Road.

Met Police tweeted: "Nine Elms Lane has reopened to traffic, but there are still other road closures in place whilst officers deal with a security alert at Battersea Power Station."
