The golden arches are back.

McDonald's is one of the last fast food joints to reopen in Ayrshire following a shutdown in March due to the coronavirus.

And the burger chain looks set to reopen both its Kilmarnock restaurants later today - but for drive-thru only.

According to McDonald's website's their Armour Street and Bellfield Interchange restaurants will open today at 11am.

And both restaurants will be open seven days a week from 11am to 10pm.

Ayr's McDonald's will also open today with Irvine and Stevenston outlets opening yesterday.

Scottish restaurants are not be offering delivery through Uber Eats or Just Eat yet, with only a handful in England operating this service.

Announcing the changes, McDonald's said: "This is only possible following the hard work of the teams in our 44 pilot restaurants.

"Over the last fortnight, our employees, franchisees and suppliers have worked tirelessly to implement new procedures to enable safe working so that we can now help all parts of the UK and Ireland to enjoy the return of the Big Mac."

McDonald's warned customers that orders will take a "little longer" as they are expecting demand to be high.

Reopened restaurants will have new hygiene and safety rules, including perspex screens, face coverings and gloves.

"Please bear with us, we will continue to put our people first – their safety is our priority," McDonald's added.

The fast food chain will reopen with a limited menu due to reduced staff numbers, which means no breakfast items or milkshakes.
