Police have confirmed the "sudden death" of a man in Birkenhead.

Officers were called to a house on Wycliffe Street in the early hours of this morning where the man, in his forties, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are not treating the death as suspicious at this stage but enquiries are ongoing.

The man, 45, is believed to have suffered a cardiac arrest.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm officers attended a house in Birkenhead this morning (Tuesday, December 17 2019) following reports of a sudden death.

"Police and the North West Ambulance Service were called to the premises, on Wycliffe Street, at around 1.05am where a man had reportedly collapsed after suffering a cardiac arrest.

"The 45-year-old was sadly pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of his death, but at this stage the man’s death is not being treated as suspicious."
