A body has been found in the search for a missing woman who was dropped off by a taxi at a beauty spot.

Natalie McCallum, 42, was last seen being dropped off close to Beachy Head, near Eastbourne in East Sussex, at about 11.30am on Wednesday.

Police issued an urgent public appeal after the woman, from Leatherhead, Surrey, disappeared.

A body, believed to be Natalie's, was found at about 12.30pm on Thursday. Formal identification has not yet taken place.

Her family has been notified. Police continue to investigate the circumstances of her death.

Coastguard crews assisted police with the recovery of the body.

A Surrey Police spokesperson said: "A body, believed to be that of missing woman Natalie McCallum, was found in Beachy Head earlier today (21 January).

"Natalie, 42, was reported missing yesterday afternoon (20 January). The discovery was made at around 12.30pm.

"Although formal identification is yet to take place, Natalie’s family are aware and being given the appropriate support.

"Our thoughts remain with them at this difficult time.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of her death.

"We would like to thank everyone who shared our appeal and assisted with the search."

A Maritime and Coastguard Agency spokesperson said: "HM Coastguard Rescue Teams from Eastbourne, New Haven, Birling Gap, and the HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Lydd have assisted today at Beachy Head."
