A car crashed into the barrier on M66 after aquaplaning.

The incident took place overnight on the motorway near Bury and involved a BMW.

Police say the car aquaplaned after hitting standing water at speed.

This led to the vehicle crashed into the central reservation and coming to a stop at the barrier.

As a result, officers are reminding motorists to drive to the current weather conditions.

A spokesperson for North West Motorway Police said: "Single vehicle minor injury RTC attended earlier by #ME18 and #ME58 on the M66.

"Vehicle aquaplaned after hitting standing water at speed, collided with the central reservation and came to rest after colliding with the Armco barrier.

"Drive to the conditions."
