Bidens and Carters photo goes viral as camera illusion causes President and First Lady to look like GIANTS

A PHOTO appeared to make President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden look like giants, towering over the former President Jimmy Carter and his wife.

The Bidens stopped off in Plains, Georgia, last Thursday to visit the 39th President, 96, and his wife Rosalynn Carter, 93, following a drive-in rally in Atlanta to mark Biden’s first 100 days in office.

The odd-looking photo was tweeted out by the Carter Center, a non-profit organization started by the Carters and Emory University.

The picture made the Bidens look like giants compared to the Carters, which was probably caused by a camera illusion.

The Carters are seen sitting in comfy armchairs with Jill Biden, 69, kneeling next to the former president while Joe Biden, 78, kneels next to Rosalynn.

No one in the photo, which was taken indoors, was wearing a mask.

While many Twitter users thought the picture had been distorted, they didn’t miss the opportunity to poke some good-natured fun at them.

One wrote on the social media site: “Absolutely transfixed and perplexed by this photo. how are the carters so tiny. why does the room look like a doll house. how is this real.”

Another joked: “Have the Carters been miniature people this whole time and we never knew??”

Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro wrote: “In which we learn that Joe and Jill Biden could both play center in the NBA.”

It seems it was just down to the photographer using a wide-angled lens.

Camera company Canon thought the use of the particular type of lens could have caused the optical illusion.

"On images shot with a wide-angle lens, perspective appears to be exaggerated: Nearby objects may look much bigger (and hence nearer) than they really are, and faraway objects look even smaller and further away," the company said on its website.

“It was great to see President Carter,” Biden said after the meeting. “It reminded me that I was the first person to endorse him outside of Georgia. And we sat and talked about the old days and he introduced me to a friend of his, a reverend he wanted me to get to know, and Rosalynn was great, too. We just had a nice time. We’re old friends.”

Democrat Carter served as president from 1977 to 1981, having previously been the Governor of Georgia since 1971.
