Brits after a last-minute trip may want to consider Turkey holidays, as the country has just been named the best value holiday destination for families this half term.

It's great news considering Turkey is one of the countries open to Brits for holidays at the time of writing, having also been removed from the UK's own red list.

Popular resort Marmaris topped a list of 10 holiday hotspots to take the title of the cheapest week's holiday for a family of four, in the Post Office's annual Family Half Term Holiday Report. (You can see the full list at the bottom of the article).

It wasn't just Turkey that impressed in the rankings.

Portugal's Algrave swooped in to take second place, boasting some of the lowest costs in the survey for drinks including coffee, beer and wine. As for a week's holiday package, the survey shows that it would set a family back around £1,598, less than £100 more than Turkey.

The report looks at average costs of everything from a cup of coffee to a three-course family meal, as well as costs of beers and wine for parents.

According to the Post Office research, a week's holiday for four this half term could cost £1,507 in total. Its overall costs for drinks and meals were around 10% less compared to 2019 when the survey was last conducted.

Marmaris has always been a firm favourite with UK holidaymakers for October half term, as it offers up hot and sunny weather (temperatures tend to average around 26C), meaning there's ample opportunity to make the most of the beaches including popular destinations such as Icmeler Beach or Marmaris beach itself.

Currently, Turkey is open to Brits who can show proof of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before arriving, and who have also filled out an online form. The exception is if you're double vaccinated, in which case you won't need to show proof of the negative test.
