Bellator Dublin main event changed as Conor McGregor’s team-mate James Gallagher is forced out of fight with Cal Ellenor

IN A JAM

JAMES GALLAGHER has been forced to pull out of the upcoming Bellator Dublin main event due to injury.

The 23-year-old Irish star, who trains with Conor McGregor, is ruled out due to an undisclosed injury.

He was due to battle Cal ‘Pacino’ Ellenor on February 22 at the 3 Arena.

Now Leah McCourt will headline the event in a featherweight clash against Germany’s Judith Ruis.

A Bellator statement confirmed: “Due to an undisclosed injury, James Gallagher will no longer compete on Feb. 22 in Dublin, and his bout with Cal Ellenor has been removed from the card.

“A women’s featherweight matchup featuring Ireland’s Leah McCourt taking on Judith Ruis of Germany will now headline Bellator’s highly anticipated return to 3Arena.”

The news will come as a huge blow to not only Gallagher but his opponent as well.

It is the second time a Dublin meeting between “Strabanimal” and the “English Gangster” has been forced from a main event.

Ellenor was forced out of their first scheduled showdown in September 2019 when he failed to get medical clearance.

But that information turned out to be inaccurate and he was immediately cleared to return to the cage with the clash rescheduled for this month.

Gallagher, with UFC mega-star McGregor watching from the front row, instead faced Roman Salazar in front of his adoring public five months ago.

He took his record to 10-1 as he forced the American to tap out after just 35 seconds courtesy of a Guillotine Choke.

Tickets are on sale now via Ticketmaster.ie and Bellator.com, as well as the 3Arena box office.
