Gabby Logan will present BBC Wales’ coverage of the new United Rugby Championship season when it begins later this month.

BBC Wales have secured the return of the URC - formerly known as the Guinness PRO14 - to terrestrial television after a few seasons of the English-language rights to live games belonging strictly to subscription channel Premier Sports.

The new deal now sees BBC Wales and Welsh language channel S4C able to, between them, broadcast 75 per cent of the season’s live games involving Wales’ four professional sides for the next four years.

BBC Wales will show 18 live games per season, one in each round in the traditional Friday night slot and they have turned to experienced presenter Logan to front the coverage.

Logan, along with BBC Scrum V regular Catrin Heledd, will be fronting coverage of the 18 games shown on BBC Wales between them.

Heledd will also be presenting the Scrum V Sunday night highlights that will showcase the action from all of the weekend’s matches.

Additionally, Gabby and Catrin will be joined throughout the season by a whole host of pundits including players Jamie Roberts and Ken Owens and international referee Nigel Owens.

Gabby Logan said: “With the formation of the United Rugby Championship and rugby’s return to Friday nights on the BBC, it’s an exciting time for the sport in Wales and I’m excited to be joining the team. We’ll be covering all the action throughout the season and I can’t wait for it all to kick off.”

Logan has been a leading face of the BBC's Six Nations coverage for several years, while she has also hosted some of the channel's flagship programmes like Match of the Day and BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

She also hosted Amazon Prime's coverage of the Autumn Nations Cup last year.

Rhuanedd Richards, Director of Programmes and Services, BBC Cymru Wales said: “Friday night rugby is back on BBC Wales and who better to lead us through an exciting season of club rugby than Gabby Logan - I’m delighted Gabby is joining the Scrum V team and bringing her expertise, talent and passion for the game to our screens. We’re gearing up for a fantastic season of sport and as the nights draw in, where better to spend some time than with our brilliant sporting programmes on BBC Cymru Wales and S4C.”
