JUST when you thought the hypocrisy at the BBC couldn’t get any worse, Radio 1 shows it totally missed the memo.
It turns out the bosses behind the ridiculous stunt which saw Greg James “kidnapped” and locked in The Shard for 48 hours paid a five-figure sum to put him up in one of the building’s best hotel suites.
And the cash was stumped up by licence fee payers.
Breakfast show host Greg was spirited away by Mollie King and Alan Carr during a Brit Awards after-party and holed up in the swanky Shangri-La hotel, which occupies 18 floors in the middle of the London skyscraper.
Suites like the one Greg was locked up in boast body-contouring beds, marble bathrooms, heated floors, room service and plasma TVs.
The bigwigs at Radio 1 confirmed they paid for the swanky accommodation but insist they got a reduced rate.
The suite would have cost £10,000 per night for normal punters, so I’m intrigued to know how much got knocked off.
Because even with a reduction it must have been pricey.
I’m not the only one who thinks it’s a joke. James Roberts of the Taxpayers’ Alliance said: “When the BBC is complaining about funding cuts and sacking staff, stunts at the Shard should not be top of the shopping list.”

JACK GETS CROSSJack Whitehall left Brits afterparty with Brooklyn Beckham’s ex at 4am
A Radio 1 spokesman told Bizarre: “We’re delighted that millions of listeners were involved with Greg’s latest Radio 1 adventure, highlighting our position as the UK’s No1 radio station for young people.”
Radio 1 needs to get its priorities straight.
And come up with something actually worth paying for.
A new disc by Jovi
JON BON JOVI’s new album with his legendary band is his deepest yet, with the rocker tackling issues such as gun control and politics, including the last US election.
The ten-track record, to be released on May 15, features such songs as Unbroken, Lower The Flag and Blood In The Water.
Rocker Jon said the album, called Bon Jovi: 2020, “encompasses life, love, and loss”.
The singer, who dropped his latest single Limitless on Thursday, will record a special version of his song Unbroken with Prince Harry’s Invictus Games Choir next Friday at Abbey Road Studios in London.
Jon and his band will embark on a US tour this summer but have stayed tight-lipped about UK dates.
A man can but hope . . .
Fast and Lewis
IF YOU thought 2019 was massive for Lewis Capaldi, it seems the next 12 months are going to be even bigger.
The Scottish superstar made history after it was revealed he sold out London’s O2 Arena in just ONE SECOND.
Lewis posted the confirmation on his Instagram after being told the show tickets had gone in record time.
The singer, who picked up two Brit awards on Tuesday night, begins his tour at Manchester’s O2 Apollo on March 2.
Despite being a megastar, Lewis is still content to live at his parents’ modest semi when back in Scotland.
I don’t think I could treasure this bloke any more.

The breakout drum and bass duo will headline their Outline tour at London’s Printworks venue next month.
Ronnie's gone Stone cold
AS a legendary rocker, he is used to the finer things in life.
So perhaps it’s no surprise that Ronnie Wood made his feelings known at the Brits this week when conditions were not quite up to his usual standards.
The Rolling Stones icon joined Sir Rod Stewart for a triumphant awards finale at London’s O2 Arena, but he was seen grumbling earlier during the rehearsals.
Ronnie Wood has high expectations and wasn't impressed with the conditions at the BritsThe veteran duo were kept hanging around in the cold for ages, prompting Ron to quip to his pal: “Shall we just go down the pub?”
He then produced a pair of heavy-duty gloves which he kept on while on stage that night because he was so chilly.
A backstage source said: “Ronnie wasn’t exactly thrilled about it and totally made his feelings known.
“Obviously touring with the Stones is a well-oiled machine so there was a lot more hanging around than he’s used to and his patience wore thin – but it all worked out in the end.”
To be fair to Ronnie, he had earlier travelled to the arena by Tube, carrying his guitar in a case – so he’s still keeping it pretty real.
Just spit it out
JUSTIN BIEBER squirmed as he ate yoghurt covered with ants and a shrimp-and-chili smoothie in a vile game on James Corden’s US telly show.
The singer – whose new album Changes is at No1 in the charts – gagged during a stomach-churning segment called Spill Your Guts Or Fill Your Guts.
After turning up his nose at a bull’s penis, he was ordered to rank his wife Hailey’s friends for their likeability, choosing from Cara Delevingne, Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid.
When he put Cara last, the model called him out on social media, sharing a picture of Justin staring at her bum during a Victoria’s Secret show in 2012.
Someone is definitely getting told off when he gets home . . .
Bella puts rest in shade
BELLA HADID wouldn’t look out of place in the lighting section at Ikea wearing this designer frock.
The supermodel showed off the lampshade-inspired gown at Milan Fashion Week as she walked for Italian brand Moschino.
Bella’s pink frock was teamed with a pair of thigh-high white boots and matching gloves.
She walked alongside her sister GIGI and their best pal Kendall Jenner.
The girls looked on top form on the catwalk after partying in London at the Brit Awards on Tuesday.
Bella and Kendall joined Harry Styles at Sony Music’s bash.
They called it quits around midnight but rather than heading home, they followed Harry and his pals for a private party at The Box in Soho.
I need some hangover recovery tips from them. This lot are pros.
Fudge is favourite for for Love final
THE Love Island final is on Sunday and four couples are vying to get their hands on the £50,000 prize pot.
Here I profile bookies’ favourites Siannise and Luke and their three rival pairings.
Host Laura Armstrong announce who’s won in a live 90-minute episode on ITV2 from 9pm.
Jess and Ched: 50/1
Memorable moment: Revealing her obsession with the number 11, much to the amusement of star viewer Chrissy Teigen, who tweeted about it.
Memorable moment: The grim time he sucked Jess’s fingers and the nation collectively vomited.
Siannise and Luke T: 2/7
Memorable moment: The death stare she fired at new girl Rebecca Gormley when she entered the villa.
Memorable moment: Not relevant as he’s been so dull but his mum Beverley was on The X Factor in 2007.
Demi and Luke M: 9/1
Memorable moment: When she stacked it in high heels following her deep and meaningful boy chat with pal Shaughna Phillips.
Memorable moment: When he told then-partner Jess: “We’ll get divorced the same day” in a challenge of Snog, Marry, Pie.
Paige and Finn: 11/4
Memorable moment: Lewis Capaldi’s ex showed she can sing just as well as him – belting out Show Me Love during a BGT-style challenge.
