Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani is being linked with a January move to Barcelona - but there is a catch, according to reports.

Despite signing a one-year extension to his United contract, the Uruguayan might struggle for regular game-time after the Old Trafford giants swooped for returning five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo on deadline day.

Cavani has appeared only twice from the bench during this Premier League season.

According to The Daily Star - as per this article at The Express - the cash-strapped Catalans are keen on the former Napoli and PSG favourite as a short-term option, but would be relying on United sanctioning a loan move.

Barcelona were linked with the same player before he touched down in the UK.

The same report claims the La Liga side would also need United to subsidise part of his £250,000 weekly wage for any deal to be struck-up.

Meanwhile, the key figures responsible for transfers at Old Trafford have been told how much they would need to splash out to sign Yves Bissouma from early Premier League surprise package Brighton.

United issued a triple statement of intent during the summer transfer window.

A move four years in the making, England forward Jadon Sancho is finally a United player after Borussia Dortmund agreed to sanction his £72.9million return to the UK - while he was promptly followed through the door by Raphael Varane and Ronaldo.

Despite those deals, the club were unable to address another 'problem' position.

Declan Rice was priced out of a high-profile switch by West Ham, while Bissouma has since emerged as a possible alternative target for United, as well as being linked with Liverpool.

According to journalist Tom Barclay - via this article from Give Me Sport - the Seagulls would expect £50million for the impressive 25-year-old midfielder, who has claimed himself to be 'the best in the Premier League'.
