"The matter is presently being investigated by the police and the security company involved and we are cooperating fully with them."

Durham Constabulary are also probing the footage.

"We are aware of a video circulating on social media showing an incident which happened outside the Boot and Shoe pub in Darlington town centre at approximately 6pm on Saturday," said a spokesperson for the force.

"Officers were alerted to the incident by operators of the town centre CCTV system and attended the scene. An investigation into an alleged assault is under way."

Kay Pattinson, who filmed the clip, described the incident as "sickening".

She claims she started filming due to a related incident moments earlier.

"The lad was a bit drunk and he was just bobbing around talking to people - that's it, " she added.
