Bake Off viewers have fallen completely head over heels for new celebrity host Matt Lucas.
The Little Britain star, 46, was confirmed as Sandi Toksvig’s replacement earlier this year, and after his first appearance on the Channel 4 show on Tuesday night, fans don’t want him to ever leave.
There’s been quite the major shake-up in the 11th series of the hit TV show as funny man Matt has joined presenter Noel Fielding, alongside judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.
The first installment of the long-awaited new series kicked off in dramatic fashion, as Matt splashed across screens dressed up as Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
The episode had been delayed as Boris delivered a coronavirus message to the nation, amid new lockdown rules and restrictions.
Amid a rise in cases of Covid-19 in the UK, the PM spoke to the public and advised them on new rules coming into place.
Knowing that the delay was set to cause a fuss among impatient fans, Matt took the opportunity to mock the unexpected delay by impersonating Boris – which went down an absolute treat with viewers at home.
After his memorable first appearance as a new host, fans flocked to Twitter to profess their love for the bold comedian.
“Matt Lucas slotted into the lineup perfectly too. I can’t wait for the rest of the series! He’s so brilliant” gushed one spectator.
While another echoed: “I don’t know how this show has ever worked without him before now. It’s as though it was made for him! And I just LOVE how he HAS to try every single cake. He doesn’t scrimp on the mouthfuls.”
“Matt Lucas made tonight’s show. I loved Sandi don’t get me wrong, but he just adds a whole different vibe to the judging panel,” a third fan added.
While a fourth quipped: “Matt Lucas looks more like Boris Johnson than Boris Johnson does. I officially love that man.”
Matt has stepped in to fill the shoes of Sandi after she announced her exit from the Channel 4 show in January, saying she wanted to work on other projects.
In a statement she said: "When stepping down from a job it is quite common for people to say they are doing so in order to spend more time with their family.
“Unusually I am departing from the Great British Bake Off so I can spend more time with my other work. As my waistline will testify, Bake Off is an all-consuming show."
* The new series of The Great British Bake Off continues Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
