ASOS is set to create 2,000 new jobs as it prepares to open a new major distribution centre in Lichfield.
Based in Fradley Park, the firm will create 2,000 new jobs over the next three years as it opens a new distribution hub in August.
The new 437,000sq ft warehouse, which will be managed by XPO Logistics, comes after a £90 million investment from the online clothing retailer.
Chief executive Nick Beighton said: "We're thrilled to be laying down the foundations for our future growth in Lichfield.
"This significant investment in infrastructure and large-scale job creation is a reflection of the confidence Asos has in its future and the quality of the skills and talent available in this well-placed location."
Mark Holland, chief operating officer at ASOS, added: "Over the past eight years, the XPO team has proven itself to be a superb partner for us, so we are very pleased to be expanding the scope of XPO's role as we build the foundations for our future growth in the UK and around the world."
Lichfield MP Michael Fabricant said: "ASOS is one of the world’s leading online fashion retailers, so this is wonderful news – particularly at a time when we are all suffering under the shadow of the covid pandemic.
"It's a reflection of the work ethic and positive business environment we enjoy in the Lichfield area. I hope that most of these 2,000 new jobs will be fulfilled by people who live in Lichfield district and I welcome Asos to our part of the world."
The announcement comes after a property investment company agreed to a £40 million deal to buy 375,000 sq ft of planned warehousing that could create 400 jobs as part of a new project near East Midlands Airport.
In February, ASOS' websites attracted 248.6 million visits and had 24.9 million active customers 7.8 million of which were located in the UK. This is up from 214.4m website visits and 22.3 million active customers in February 2020, reports BusinessLive.
Gavin Williams, managing director, supply chain – UK and Ireland at XPO Logistics, said: "These two, new multi-year agreements with ASOS are a testament to the dedication of our team and the cutting-edge expertise we have showcased at the Barnsley facility over the last eight years.
"We're eager to apply our know-how to our third ASOS site with the launch of operations in Lichfield."
