A Burton restaurant will be making Ramadan gift boxes for customers to send to their loved ones.

The Claypot Lounge, in New Street will be preparing freshly cooked gift boxes containing several tasty options such as tandoori chicken lollipops, shami kebab, seekh kebab, onion bhaji, chicken and vegetable mix Biryani, mixed fruit salad, dates and fresh green salad and sauce.

This is the first time a restaurant done something like this and owner Baz Miah says the reason behind the idea was to compensate family who are not able to visit one another and break their fast together during Ramadan due to covid restrictions.

Gift boxs cost £18 or £30 for two and they are available to order from today, Monday, April 12. Ramadan begins for most tomorrow, April 13, and for others later this week depending on which mosques they attend.

Bablu Miah, owner of the Claypot Lounge said: " The Ramadan gift box is a great way for friends and family members to spread the joy of Ramadan and gift one another something to make up for not being able to see each other or break the fast together.

"Business has been tough, and I hope with this new concept, we can cater to those who would usually have community feasts or gathering with friends and family.

"This is a new concept we will be introducing to Burton, due to the pandemic I am confident this will work and I am already getting a lot of interest from the Muslim community in Burton.

"Orders for the gift boxes will need to be placed a day before, as we will need a minimum of 24 hours notice to make sure we can prepare all the orders.

"Customers will have to collect the orders and we will make sur all the orders are ready one hour prior to the fast breaking.

"It is unfortunate we won't be able to celebrate Ramadan like usual but again it is something that will help keep us all safe, things are moving in the right direction and we need to make sure we don't slip up now.
