Artist perfectly captures animal encounters with incredibly realistic paintings

A BIG cat peers chillingly from behind icicles in what appears to be a pin-sharp photo — but the image is in fact an amazingly detailed painting.

US artist Collin Bogle uses coloured pencils, water-based pastels and airbrushes to portray encounters with beasts including bears and wolves.

The 47-year-old spends between two weeks and two months painstakingly creating each piece of art.

Collin, of Seattle, said: “My dad is an artist and was also a high school art teacher - so I started learning to paint as soon as I could hold a brush.

“I began drawing realistic scenes in elementary school (primary school), and I’m inspired by animals due to their uniqueness and beauty.

“I love creating these vivid, up close experiences that couldn’t be replicated in the wild, and aim to show something lively and spectacular that the viewer wouldn’t normally get to see.”

Collin added: “After an initial sketch I fill in the basic undertones and values, airbrushing the watercolours, then build up from dark to light using coloured pencils and water-based pastels.

“Coloured pencils also work great for details like animal hairs and whiskers.

“I especially like wolves, bears and big cats; it’s a good chance to see them up close without the threat of being eaten.”
