Arsenal's offer to swap Alexandre Lacazette for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez was swiftly rebuffed, according to reports in Italy.

Lacazette, 30, is facing an uncertain future at the Emirates with less than 12 months remaining on his contract and doubts over his ability to lead the line for the Gunners.

The Frenchman registered an underwhelming tally of 13 goals Premier League goals last season and Mikel Arteta is said to be keen to freshen up his attack.

Martinez, 23, presents Arsenal with a youthful replacement for Lacazette and the Argentine impressed with 17 goals as Inter triumphed in Serie A last campaign.

But the Gunners may be some way off meeting Inter's valuation and their hopes of securing a straight swap deal for the two strikers was met with a 'blunt no' by San Siro chiefs.

That's according to La Gazzetta dello Sport , which claims Inter value Martinez - who has two years remaining on his contract - at €80million (£68m).

Arsenal may turn to Tammy Abraham if they are unable to prise Martinez from Inter, with the Chelsea No. 9 keen to leave Stamford Bridge in search of regular game time.

Highbury legend Nigel Winterburn claims Abraham would be a good signing for his old side but he is unsure whether Arsenal can give him the minutes he is after.

"Arsenal have been linked with Tammy Abraham from Chelsea. He certainly would fit the bill of recent Arsenal signings, young with a point to prove," Winterburn told Goal .

'People will question his consistency but what you want is for these young players to get a run in the team.

"Is he going to get a run in a team if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is playing well? Probably not unless Aubameyang can be switched to the left-hand side - although you then need to leave out either Nicolas Pepe or Bukayo Saka.

"With Abraham, there's potential there and development for a young, young player. So, I think it's an option that Arsenal, although with Alexandre Lacazette being linked with a move away, it could be just a name that has been thrown into a hat."

Winterburn also urged the Guners not to part ways with Lacazette, adding: "Arsenal shouldn't sell Lacazette unless they've got an upgrade in place. I wouldn't let him go until we have secured another striker. I've said that all along.

"Lacazette is a different striker to anything Arsenal have at the club. When he's in top form, he holds the ball up well, his link-up play is good.

"I wouldn't let him go and then we haven't got anybody else to bring in. For me, that's just way too risky."
