Armed police have cordoned off a major city centre road after an incident in the Georgian Quarter.

Officers are currently at the scene on Upper Parliament Street, near the city centre, and have erected a cordon in the area.

Road closures are in place between Catharine Street and Grove Street and public transport is being redirected.

It is not yet clear what has happened to spark the massive police presence but we will be bringing you updates as and when we get them.

Upper Parliament street is cordoned off tonight with a major police presence in the area.

Matrix units and armed officers are at the scene.

As of yet, the nature of the incident is unknown.
