Proposed redevelopments of a popular south Liverpool children’s activity centre have been approved by Liverpool Council.

Otterspool Adventure Centre has got the green light for plans it originally submitted in 2019 for changes to the site, just off Otterspool Drive.

The centre describes itself as an attraction with “unrivalled facilities”, while offering views across the Mersey.

The approval means the centre can retain the site’s go-kart track and jumping pillow and also allows for the building of a number of new features, including an activity barn and extensions to other buildings.

A report attached by applicants Cosgrove in 2019 said the redevelopment proposals were due to a change in ownership that meant not all of the site was being used by the public.

The report said: “The proposed activity barn has been designed to match the style and materials of the existing main hub buildings – the reception/café building and ice cream parlour. It has a large open aspect on the western elevation.

“This corresponds with the café within the reception building which has a large glass gable overlooking the inflatable jumping pillow, allowing parents to supervise their children from within the café.”

Plans to build a new activity tower and extend the cafe building have also been approved by the council.

The report said: “The positioning of the activity tower has been designed to reduce the impact on views across the site. In addition to this, the relocation of the tower will reduce the potential for conflict with the trees adjacent the existing tower.

“The layout of the café extension has been designed to provide the required additional facilities for servicing visitors of the site and consist of toilet facilities, a staff room and a mechanical plant.

“At present there are insufficient WC and changing facilities. The addition of staff showers will allow for staff to cycle to work.”
