Police are appealing for witnesses after a van driver left the scene of an accident which left two young children injured.

Officers were called to the scene after reports of a white van had collided with a Nissan Micra near the Redheugh Bridge in Newcastle.

At first, the driver of the white van got out and spoke to the driver of the Micra but then drove off without leaving any details.

The collision took place on the A184 dual carriage way, Askew Road before the turn off to the bridge shortly before 3.50pm on Friday, September 17.

The two young children in the back of the Nissan sustained minor injuries as a result of the incident.

Police are now appealing for the driver of the white van or anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

They are especially interested to hear from anyone may have dashcam footage of the incident.
