Alcoholism cost me my job and now it’s pushing my family away

DEAR DEIDRE: ALCOHOL has cost me every job I’ve ever had. Now my partner – the mother of my two children – is getting ready to walk out on me.

I’ve always worried about money, as we didn’t have much when I was young.

So when I left school, I worked really hard training as a solicitor. I’m 28.

But as the debt from studying started to mount up, I turned to booze. It would stop my brain whirring, at least for a while.

Soon my boss caught on and let me go. It’s been the same with four other jobs since. I have tried to go sober but managed a best of 64 days before caving.

My girlfriend, who’s also 28, is sick of me constantly letting her down and acting like a drunk around our two kids.

Get in touch with Deidre today

My team and I are working safely from home but we are here to help you as always.

DEIDRE SAYS: You have proven you can go without drinking for 64 days, which is a real achievement.

Contact Drinkline for confidential advice on treatment (0300 123 1110) and show your partner you are trying to change.

Start by asking what improvements she needs to see. Her support is key for a successful recovery.
