An air ambulance landed close to a major road following a crash in Ormskirk this afternoon.

A motorcyclist was seriously injured after crashing with a car as emergency services rushed to the scene.

Emergency services were called to the crash at the junction of Scarth Hill Lane and St Helens Road and Ormskirk Road at around 1.30pm on Tuesday.

Road and air ambulances were sent to the scene, with police closing the A570 between that junction and the Stanley Gate pub, causing significant delays in the surrounding area.

The motorcyclist was taken to Southport Hospital by road, according to Lancashire Police.

A spokesperson said: “We were called to a collision between a car and a motorbike. There was one casualty, a male who had suffered serious injuries.”
