School leavers might prefer to jump straight into a workplace rather than continuing to learn in classrooms on an academic route.
Traineeships can provide an ideal way to get real experience in the industry you're aspiring to work in, even if you're still looking to sharpen your knowledge and skills in key subject areas like English and maths.
The 10-week courses are offered by Wirral Met College, and provide the chance to learn the tricks of your chosen trade while also enhancing your CV in other areas, in preparation for enrolling on an apprenticeship or heading in to full-time employment as your next step.
The college, which is preparing to host an event this month to offer more information about the career option, provides the traineeship courses for free with public transport costs also covered.
Partnerships with a number of employers also enable to college to give students the chance to develop industry insight and knowledge within a variety of different companies.
What is a traineeship?
Available for anyone aged between 16-24, or up to aged 25 for those with an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan, a traineeship is a free short course with work experience that gets young people ready for employment or an apprenticeship.
Lasting just 10 weeks, traineeships at Wirral Met College are perfect for school leavers who are looking to land a job or apprenticeship but are lacking the skills and experience which employers are looking for.
Whether it's developing English, maths or digital skills, the course gives students the chance to prepare for a life outside of school with a taste of a professional working environment as well as boosting essential knowledge on how to write a good CV.
With great links to a wide range of employers, Wirral Met College ensures each of its programmes are tailored to meet students' needs.
What traineeships are available?

Jane Edwards, business development manager at Wirral Met College, knows just how valuable traineeships can be.
She said: “Completing a traineeship is a fantastic opportunity for young people who want to boost their skills and gain experience in an industry they are interested in gaining a career in.
“During the 10-week course, participants will develop their English, maths and digital skills and learn all about the world of work so they can progress on to an apprenticeship or job.
