The headteacher at St Matthew’s RC High School, Mrs Helen Murden, is proud to be working with staff, students, and their families as they continue to work in partnership with a National Teaching School, bringing standards of excellence to the school.
Usually, at this time of year, the school would invite families and students of the local community to St Matthew’s to showcase all that it has to offer.
In the current climate however, the school is instead hosting a number of virtual open events to allow prospective students and families to learn more whilst staying safe. As part of the events, prospective students and their families will be introduced to the school’s dedicated staff and will hear from current students on what St Matthew's has to offer.
St Matthew’s has a long history of providing Catholic education to the young people of Manchester.
Over the past two years whilst on a journey of rapid improvement, an increased number of Year 11 students have left the school with greater life chances than in previous years.
This is attributed to the relentless drive by staff and students to ensure teaching and learning is the core business of the school, underpinned by a strong Catholic ethos.
St Matthew’s offers a highly aspirational curriculum to all students. The school enjoys a long tradition of sporting success, along with a range of extra-curricular opportunities that are available to all students. Each young person is encouraged to ‘be the best version of themselves’.
During the recent lockdown, the school paid particular attention to being in weekly contact with almost every single student at the school. It provided bespoke pastoral support to the most vulnerable students, which was recognised nationally.
A provision for families with key workers was available throughout lockdown and this became a thriving hub of teaching and learning. These opportunities strengthened the links between the school and the local community.
St Matthew’s is proud of what its staff are doing and is excited for the future. Head to a virtual event to see for yourself!
The virtual open events will take place on September 29 from 9.15am to 10.45am, and on October 8 from 4.30pm to 6.30pm.
