It's something that needs to be done, but sometimes picking up your prescription can be a real pain.
Those of us who work early or late often miss out on the pharmacy's opening times, and having to wait in long queues can really cut into the day.
However, the team at Holm Pharm Dumfries, which was formerly G R Blount Pharmacy, is excited to mark the launch of a brand new piece of technology which will make getting medication so much easier.
The new automated prescription point was installed last week, to coincide with a full rebrand of the pharmacy - which has remained under the same ownership since 2008.
The prescription collection machine, MedPoint, acts like an ATM for prescriptions and is the first technology of its kind in the Dumfries area.
Designed and built in Britain, the machine automates prescription collection and allows patients to pick them up 24 hours a day, instead of being confined to pharmacy opening hours.
Jennifer Weir, superintendent pharmacist, said: "Myself and the Dumfries team are really excited to be bringing this technology into our business.
"We see the advantages that it will bring to our patients particularly as we head towards another winter during the pandemic.
"With social distancing still being applicable in healthcare settings, the MedPoint will help to alleviate some of the pressures which we all experience in a busy pharmacy."
How does it work?
Pharmacy customers can order their prescriptions like they normally do, and receive a unique code by text when it's ready to collect.
John Mowat, pharmacy manager, said: "MedPoint is a fantastic solution as our patients can order their prescriptions in the usual way, but they can pick it up any time, day or night, all while observing social distancing.
"It's helping us to alleviate pressure on the NHS and will allow us to provide the best possible access to patients in the 'new normal' we have been faced with over the previous 12-18 months"
How will it help?
The machine will help to reduce queues at pharmacies and provide a lifeline to those who struggle to pick up their prescriptions during regular working hours, particularly key workers.
The collection point is highly secure with integrated alarms, CCTV, and is temperature controlled to ensure medicines are stored safely.
