A 'cannibalistic' solar storm is heading towards Earth

A series of explosions on the Sun could lead to a "cannibal"solar stormheading for Earth.

Recently, the Sun experienced two of her coronal mass ejections (CMEs) during which particles were ejected from the surface.

They are now heading toward Earth and could cause disruption to satellites and other critical systems, space weather experts warn.

and , when they were heading towards us, together they could cannibalize each other and become an even more powerful blast. Occurs when an energetic, fast explosion follows and consumes CME.

The pair will arrive on Earth on Thursday or Friday.

G3-class geomagnetic storms, called "strong" storms, can occur. Such events are classified on a scale from G1 to G5. G5 includes extensive power system problems and communication shutdowns.

However, in the worst case, this week's solar storm is expected to reach only G3. This can cause minor problems with some power systems, affect satellites, or cause problems with navigation systems.

It could also mean that the Northern Lights or Northern Lights are visible farther south than normal. According to the Bureau of Meteorology, the activity means light could be seen in the skies of northern England or New York.

The Sun continues to be in a particularly active period, with watchers suggesting a possible "high" level of solar activity over the next few days. As a result, more flares from the Sun are likely.
