Plenty of people will be wanting to get back on the road now lockdown rules are easing, and the cheapest cars to insure have now been named.

While public transport may be feeling a little unsafe for some and face coverings are now mandatory for this kind of travel, more people are looking to get about in cars.

This was shown in the fact that searches for used cars rose by 90 per cent in June, compared to the beginning of lockdown, for example, according to AA Cars, reports The Mirro r.

However, it's not just the price you pay for the car to consider, there is also the costs of insuring your vehicle.

Clare Egan, from car insurer Admiral, said: “It can be expensive to get on the road and there are a lot of costs to consider. From the price of fuel, to car insurance and making sure your vehicle is serviced and has valid road tax – it all adds up."

Admiral took a look at its database to see which cars cost people the least to insure.

Clare added: "The good news is they vary in styles and size so some of the cars may suit a single person or couple, whereas others will be ideal for a family of five who need more space."

Admiral also had some advice for people getting back into driving after a while without sitting behind the wheel - whether it's a result of lockdown or you've just not had a car recently.

“If you’ve been out of driving practice for a while, it’s important to make sure you are confident and comfortable being back behind the wheel," Clare said.

"Practising manoeuvres such as parking and reversing in open spaces like car parks could help increase your confidence before you get back on the roads again.”
