Louisiana teacher quits after police probe allegation teen fathered her child

A Louisiana teacher has resigned from her job following allegations that she gave birth to a child that was fathered by a student.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office in Hammond, 75 km east of Baton Rouge, said in a social-media update that the allegation of a teacher-student relationship at one of the area’s high schools was being investigated.

Sheriff Daniel Edwards said a report was taken on Sunday that a 17-year-old male student was the father of a child with a Tangipahoa Parish School System employee.

After receiving the report, detectives immediately began investigating the claims, police said.

“While we cannot share specific details regarding the investigation, we can confirm that the allegations were dealt with promptly and the investigation process has been rigorous and thorough,” Edwards said in a statement.

“This type of investigation is time-consuming and is being handled with great care. Under no circumstances will we be rushed for closure.”

Police said a representative with the Tangipahoa Parish School System confirmed that the teacher being investigated recently resigned from her position.

The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.
