Malaysia's unemployment rate remains at 3.4 percent in July

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia saw the number of unemployed people in the Southeast Asian country decline further to 579,200 in July, with the unemployment rate remaining unchanged at 3.4 percent as in June, official data showed Friday.

The labor market in Malaysia continued to expand moderately, recording a steadily increasing number of employed people, while the number of unemployed is decreasing, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement.

According to the DOSM, the number of employed people in July recorded an increase of 0.2 percent month-on-month to reach 16.34 million, registering a higher labor force participation rate at 70.1 percent.

In line with the positive business expectations for the third quarter, supported by the stability in job market, an increase in domestic tourism and more optimistic prospects in the health tourism industry, the DOSM said the country's labor force market is expected to remain positive and expand moderately in the upcoming month as Malaysia's short-term economic outlook is anticipated to moderate.
