Charity golf tournament registration opens

Golfers can tee off for a noble cause at the 23rd Pusat Ehsan Charity Golf Tournament 2023 from October 6 to 8 at Pantai Mentiri Golf Club.

The tournament is split into various categories namely Gross category, nett division ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ categories, senior category aged 55 to 65, senior category aged 66 and above as well as VIP/Sponsor category and Ladies category.

Tournament advisor Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Alimin bin Haji Abdul Wahab, in a press conference yesterday, said, “We thought that we could organise two charity golf events this year with the first in March. However, we were unable to due to the COVID-19 situation in the Sultanate.”

The theme, he said, “Is similar to the previous years, ‘Perpetual Care’. It reflects in and around our concern and dedication for those with special needs under the care of Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam. We do not feel a need to change the theme at the moment. We are anticipating about 250 or more golfers taking part this year.

“We are excited to put on another tournament to help our students to achieve a meaningful life in the community.”

Tournament Chairman Seruji said, “The tournament will feature the Patron’s Challenge Trophy, also open to ladies, senior male and super senior male golfers. The tournament will be conducted on the basis of System 36 (Stroke Play) but for the Gross players, a special Sunday Gross event will be held for 12 top gross players for the challenge trophy.”

Those interested can register at the Pantai Mentiri Golf Club.

Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Alimin also shared that Pusat Ehsan “as a non-government, non-profit and charitable organisation, depends on fund generated from donations and contributions from the community. Raising funds for the centre is the key objective of
this tournament”.

He added, “Pusat Ehsan has been given blessings to operate the first OKU (persons with different abilities) school in the country and developing a school is a long process and has to be built on a strong foundation that needs to be recognised by the Ministry of Education and other ministries. Therefore we are in need of financial contribution to help with the operation of the first OKU school.” – James Kon
