AN off-grid family-of-three have dispelled a common myth about their way of life.
Kimberley Ainsworth lives with her partner Aaron and daughter in the mountains in southwest Colorado with their dogs and chickens.
The family renovated a 1999 Aerolite and removed all the pipes in the trailer from the kitchen and the bathroom to create a vast living room and two bedrooms.
They also have a small house on their plot of land, powered by solar panels and a generator, and an outdoor shower.
Kimberley regularly share updates on her TikTok teaching others how to go off-grid.
In one video, she explained how her partner had just returned from a "chore day" - where he picked up petrol, water, and propane.
As Aaron goes through his day of errands for the camera, he said many people think water consumption off-grid would be "insane".
But he explained it's not true - and they can still use water minimally.
He explained: "Honestly, living off-grid, you would think your water consumption is insane, but we still live minimally.
"I would say we never use 60 gallons a day. But we always like to have it full at all times."
In another clip, Kimberley showed the couple filling up their water tank at the local water station in icy conditions.
The mum also shared how they both use the outdoor shower - even in the rain and snow.
They have all their plumbing in their "tiny house" outside the trailer.
In another video, Kimberley explained how she sustains her family's off-grid life by running a cleaning business.
But she added: "Ideally over the next couple of years I will work less and less because our monthly bills are not bad at all.
"Mostly I work to fund all the projects we need in order to live a slightly more convenient off-grid life, like the solar panels.
"Every day gets a little bit easier, we get a little bit closer to our goal of self-sufficiency and more free time, which is why we chose to live like this."
Another family-of-four who live proudly off-grid revealed they let their children sleep outside even when it’s freezing.
Teacher Rachael and tree surgeon Fraser live in a woodland with their two children, Grace and Albie, and their two dogs.
Their home is a caravan and yard that is powered through solar panels and an energy generator.
According to Rachael, off-grid for their family means not being connected to any public utilities like water, electricity, main gas and a telephone line.
The couple have built everything in the woodland themselves - including building their generator and rain water filters - but find it most challenging in the winter.
They dig their own trenches, collect and filter their own rain water and hope to become self-sufficient on their land.
The couple decided to go off-grid three years ago, using a piece of land for £15,500 22-years-ago.
The 4.5 acre plot was initially bought as storage space for his tree surgery business, but they soon began harvesting and growing trees on it to turn it into their dream off-grid home.
