Saints Row Preview: The Saints Return in the Long-Awaited, Action-Packed Reboot

The Saints are finally back. The new Saints Row feels like it's back to its roots, but with some updates and modernizations heading into 2022, it's fighting hard.

Saints Row games are a crime-themed, open-world, third-person game series that began in 2006 and was initially considered a clone of Grand Theft Auto.

The saints within that series were not violent satires, but instead developed their own identities that took their ludicrous comedy to its most absurd and furthest point.

}

The protagonists of these past games eventually become the President of the United States, start fighting aliens, gain superpowers, and become trapped in simulations. It's really insane.

Getting rid of old characters like Johnny Gut for a new crew is a bold move (

Each game pushes its wacky and over-the-top madness even further, turning itself into a corner. I felt like I was being driven to. Every Saint's game has tried to raise the stakes, but the reboot feels like a much-needed opportunity to dominate. It seems like the perfect time for the humor to return from a distance from the .But the series can function without that crazy over-the-top mess.

It's a reboot of the series with a cast and setting, but retains the explosive action and humor in ways that are more ridiculous than past games.

The total madness of Saint's Row as known in 3 and 4 doesn't exist, but that doesn't mean it's humorless. In fact, the humor is more grounded, but there is still a lot of bombastic action in the game, and that fun made the series what it is.

Just like in past games, just by joining a mission An open-world operation to help your criminal organization grow and dominate, without.

Instead of starting the game as an established gang boss, you start out as a military contractor, a talented and reckless henchman of one of his local "gangsters" Marshall Industries . You play day one as Marshall's henchman.

After impressing them with your maverick skills and one-liners, you get promoted, but sadly it doesn't last and you and your roommate decide to create your own crew.

You and your three friends Eli, Neenah, and Kevin are all rich and live in Santo Illeso, a fictional city set in the American Southwest that includes cities, suburbs, and deserts. trying to survive.

There are three dangerous warring factions and your friends basically work for other gangs until you form your own gang and take over this town.

Still lots of crazy action and mayhem, but this time around just less} (

All the other gangs are just party weapons and vehicles But also has the distinctive appearance of a passerby, an idol, a tech specialist, a marshal, and a brutal Los Pateros.

It's emphasized that these characters care about each other, and there's a great script that's well acted, a little moody at times, but not at Joss Whedon's level or irritating,

One of the things that surprised me was that the cast this time around was much different from previous games where the characters were intentionally obnoxious. He was an interesting and likable person.

Saints are not seen as heroes, but merely as friends or groups of petty criminals. I'm trying to pay off my student loans and make some money to survive but get caught up in these crazy over-the-top high speed&furious type car chases and shootouts that only seem to escalate , you just have to shoot or drive to the exit.

There is an incredible level of detail in character creation, with lots of options and customizations to create almost any character you can think of yourself.

Be who you want to be with a variety of skin tones, hairstyles and quirky outfits. You can also customize weapons, crew outfits, and vehicles to give you your own saint style.

The gameplay follows in his third-person action-packed crazy shooting of The Saints His Row, but everything feels a little tight and down-to-earth. I will. Health didn't regenerate as quickly during combat as in previous titles.

So far, Saints Row feels like a perfect balance between 3 and 2. (

Instead, a small amount can be recovered when leaving combat. You can, but you'll need to perform a special takedown to fully recover.

You should also be aware that the meter gradually fills up with successful kills. This allows you to do a special takedown that can normally kill goons in one hit and restore health.

Skills can be leveled up and assigned to quick slots to provide passive boosts, perform special moves such as throwing smoke grenades and running away, or if you don't like it, grant someone You can put grenades in your pants Throwing them at your buddies is really fun.

In combat, you should always be aggressive and move around to regenerate health. It seems to emphasize Takedowns to recharge quickly.

"Go here, kill these guys" missions are still a staple of the series, but being Saints Row means that sometimes the unexpected happens, missions go awry, and adaptations means that you are forced to

There are also many side hustle his missions. This includes the return of the classic insurance scam, where characters get stuck in traffic, jump from car to car, and crash into the sidewalk. How much bone-crushing damage you take.

Vehicles can be customized to add a unique flair to the game (

The only surprise was the sparse population of Santo Ireso. This is a pre-release version, just ask Fallout 76 for an open world without barren boring people. .

Driving has also been upgraded for fun, with side swipes reminiscent of his game Burnout, so you can smash enemies and police cars into obstacles and destroy cars. This is a lot of fun.

So far, Saint's Row seems to have extracted the best elements of the series, but the emphasis on characters and story seems to make the game even stronger with it. looks like

It feels like Saints Row still has that sense of "Saints Magic" and that anything can happen.

Let's hope Saints Row wins the franchise. It has excellent character writing and gameplay, with no superpowers, aliens, or dubstep guns in sight.

Saints Row releases August 23rd for Xbox Series X / Series S and PS 5 / PS4 and PC through the Epic Game Store
