"I tried Asda's controversial new value range and couldn't believe the price."

Asda's redesigned Saber series was yesterday accused of "embarrassing poor families" due to its color and product design. Among

shoppers the bright yellow packaging stood out too much, giving "poverty markers" to customers walking around with baskets of produce. Some claimed that there are.

But while some praised the bright, bold aesthetic of thesupermarket managers, the redesign improves on the drab, unremarkable packaging of the previous Smart Price range. Some argue that it is.

One such fan her is Miller her journalist Danielle Kate Wroe. She decided to test her products by selecting a new range to try for herself. This is how she rides.

I collected all the bits I wanted to try. To be honest, I think Asda she did a great job upgrading the Smart Price range. I don't understand what the fuss is about. I think the cheap and bubbly aesthetic is a bold step away from the drab budget ranges of the past.

Not everything is in one section of her, but can be found in the "regular" locations of supermarkets, making it easier to buy items without having to specifically ask. rice field.

After leaving Asda, the price of the goods gave me springs under my feet (20.65 in all) Pounds, to be honest, I couldn't believe it) and was ready to try everything - and I hoped to be impressed.

First was the steak. I mean it when I say this she is incredibly shocked by the quality of the 2lb steak. Tender and delicious, I cooked it in olive oil and served with lots of salt and pepper, Asda spread and 1.5 cloves of garlic.

The packaging is definitely eye-catching, but I'm a fan. (Image: Danielle Kate Wroe)

The end result was something the chef would be proud of. And considering he can pay over £30 for a steak in a restaurant, I was really impressed with this overall quality. The portion size was sufficient to make a full meal out of it. This is great. I expected the 2 lb steak to be much smaller.

Perhaps it was her potato pops that stood out among the many. Don't sniff around with these potato-based products. Once it turns perfectly golden brown in the oven, the middle somehow becomes perfectly fluffy and potato-like.

I'm still shocked that the steak was 2 pounds. (Image: Danielle Kate Wroe)

Maybe I just pat the oven on, but I think anyone can master these dishes. . and pizza. Got a perfect weekday meal that even fussy kids couldn't get their noses up.

The package of the curry rice does not clearly state what kind of curry it is, so I tried it while wondering what kind of curry it was. It's a curry that you often see with potato chips and jacket potatoes, but it had plenty of chicken and plenty of onions.

I added a pinch of salt to this and was very impressed. (Image: Danielle Kate Wroe)

It wasn't healthy per se, but it's definitely healthier than regular prepared food. At just 302 calories, it's definitely something to consider if you're looking to eat a little healthier but are struggling with time. This is actually pretty tough. I was really impressed with this and happily finished it (once I added a little salt).

Next comes sausage and mashed potatoes. This is not my favorite meal. I also take vengeance on onion gravy, so maybe I'm being a bit biased when I say this really wasn't the meal for me.

The sausage tasted as expected, but the onion gravy was too strong for me. And for the record, I think mashing potatoes is the worst thing you can do to a great vegetable.

I was a little worried about these as I don't really like stale fish. If fish cakes are in your weekly meal rotation, you're likely to become a big fan of these.

It didn't taste cheap at all, and the cod was light and fluffy. The size is rather small, but one potato chip for a child is enough for him. 10 for 1.10 lbs, so 1 bag makes a good portion of your meal.

Just Essentials bacon has just the right amount of thickness. I've always had the more expensive the better mindset when it comes to bacon, but my pork snobs have been proven very wrong. It's crispy in all the right places and makes for the perfect weekend breakfast served between two pieces of lightly toasted bread.

My bacon-loving days are over. (Image: Danielle Kate Wroe)

Beans, beans, they are good for the heart and all jazz. But beans and sausage are not my favourite, so I wasn't a big fan of this combo. I could definitely see myself reaching for this if I'm having a hard time thinking of something for lunch, but I find it tastes much better when served with grated cheese.

I thought it was a little bland, but it's not something that can be fixed with a pinch of salt. And for the record, I would find even the most expensive beans bland.

The cheese and tomato pizza looked a little stingy with cheese, so I added a bit of grated cheese to fill in the gaps. Because if you love cheese and tomato pizza, there's no reason not to love this one. And the prices are incredible. At just 99p, it easily feeds two adults with accompaniments. We also make smaller kids potions in the same range, so everyone can enjoy them together.

But the pizza needed more cheese. (Image: Danielle Kate Wroe)

The bread was thinly sliced like a milk roll (my favorite bread), but for this bread Not much to say. It actually tastes decent and the fact that it's 39p makes it great to freeze and use when needed. If you like mild cheese like I do, I think you'll love it. The most expensive of the

lots is £2.25. We can assume this is because dairy prices in general seem to be on the rise, but it's still cheaper than its competitors. And, in my opinion, tastier. Super mature cheese doesn't suit me. I think this would make a great cheese for kids as the taste is not considered offensive in any way, shape or form. Not cheesy, but this is probably my new favorite.

This vegetable oil spread is a ridiculously cheap 75 pence and in my opinion is a great alternative to butter, especially with dairy prices rising right now. If you're making a sandwich, I really don't think you can taste butter enough to care about it. Toast is not my preferred breakfast anyway. This is definitely a swap I am ready to do.

Soft spreads are a cheap and tasty alternative. (Image: Danielle Kate Wroe)

If it looks like Nutella and tastes like Nutella, it must be Nutella. Hmm. It's Asda's Chocolate Hazelnut Spread and I'm officially stunned. It doesn't quite pack the same punch as my favorite choshy spread, but it comes very close. And if you're saving almost £4 (in Ocado he's a 350g Nutella he's £4.95 and this his Asda jar is another 50g).

Available in two flavors, strawberry and peach, these yogurts are downright delicious. At first it seems a little less thick than its competitors, but just a good stir will thicken it up and make it more palatable. I preferred the peach flavor, but both make a pretty healthy alternative to dessert for you, and kids love them too as they taste very similar to fluves - but more for your spending. Worth it.

This yogurt is sure to please parents and children alike. (Image: Danielle Kate Wroe)

This custard tastes really sick of me. I am a huge custard fan and a custard lover. I have to admit that my expectations weren't too high for the 36p. But it has the perfect texture and just the right amount of vanilla flavor. No lumpy custard if you're buying from the essentials range.

If you love mini cookies, you will love these. It's packed with as many chocolate chips as you'd expect from its more expensive counterparts, and is also dusted with a thin layer of sugar on top. It is very delicious and goes well with hot instant coffee. Oh, and if you have a lot of willpower, they can definitely last you up to a week - all for 39p.

Caramel wafers are the ultimate treat, but they have to be just the right amount, so I was nervous when unwrapping this sweet treat. But I was so happy when I came across a really delicious chocolate covered caramel and chewy bar. At about 10p per wafer, I'm 100% repurchasing these. Also great to put in candy jars for older kids.

If you love ready-made salty potato chips, you'll love these house brand potato chips. It's not greasy, has a crunchy texture, and is just the right amount of salt. The only downside is that they are ridiculously more similar. At just over 13p per packet, you'll definitely find these in your basket the next time you make your next big purchase.

Orange juice is one of those things that is always available, but it is so expensive these days that it is rarely available. Not so with Asda, but this orange juice is only 69p. catch. I don't have one because this juice is actually really great. Probably the nicest "from concentrate" oranges I've ever eaten. If you're picky about the little things like I am, you're in luck because it's so smooth.

I don't usually drink his instant coffee, but this is enough to convert me. At just 75 pence for 100 grams, you'll save a lot on your monthly bill. I don't like hot coffee very much, so I made it iced as usual, but I misunderstood that the coffee was weak and made it with 4 spoons of coffee.

Instant coffee is a great swap to save money. (Image: Danielle Kate Wroe)

Although 1 or 2 teaspoons are recommended on the package, it is actually very strong and requires 2 teaspoons. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the cup worked. enough. It's very easy to drink, and it's been a drink that is easy to drink.

Kitchen rolls were horrendous to see they literally went up in price overnight. I used to use Plenty but couldn't justify the price and switched to cheap paper towels. At 99p for two rolls, this Asda kitchen roll is amazing. When submerged in water for a minute, it really held its own - it didn't fall apart. - And when I cleaned up the spill, it worked amazingly well. I can't believe there's anything this paper towel didn't clean up so I say yes.

Sadly, Ruroll didn't suit me. (Image: Danielle Kate Wroe)

Toilet paper is recycled and comes in 6 rolls of 400 sheets. This is great. To be honest, I wasn't surprised, but I am particular about toilet paper.

There is nothing wrong with that. If you're not a self-proclaimed TP snob, I'm sure you'll find this to be a good exchange. At £1.90 for 6 rolls (just over 36p per roll) it's very affordable and much cheaper than the competition. I found one side a little rough for my liking (slightly raised dots).

The whole store was a bargain. (Image: Danielle Kate Wroe)

Clearly, these foods don't represent everything you need for a healthy, balanced diet. No (I never ate any fruits or vegetables) but they are good staples to feed a family cheaply.

Here is the price list for all I have purchased:

Toilet Paper - £1.90

Kitchen Paper - 99 pence

Bread - 39p

Orange Juice - 69p

Custard - 36p

Beans and Sausage - 42p

Curry Rice - £1 .35

Potato Chips - 82p

Soft Spreads - 75p

Yogurt - 79p

Beef Steak - £2

Cookies - 39p

Satsuma Age - £1.10

Potato Pops - 72p

Cheese - £2.25

Chocolate Spread - 88p

Coffee - 75p

Pizza - 99p

Sausage and Mash - £1.33

Caramel Wafers - 53p

Bacon - £1.25

Total = £20.65

Surprised at the low price. (Image: Danielle Kate Wroe)

Overall, I'd be lying if I said I thought they all tasted equally good. I was nervous about trying the meat products, but most of them were delicious, so my fears were overwhelmed. I highly recommend this range if you're on a tight budget or looking to make a few quick swaps to make life a little easier right now.

And about those who judge you for the yellow label. Please hold your head up high. We are doing our best now. And if you can spend your money on other things by buying cheaper alternatives at the supermarket, well, good, because it's all delicious.
