Torkham crossing closed as Afghan and Pakistani forces clash

On Wednesday, Afghan and Pakistani forces engaged in a clash at the Torkham border crossing, resulting in its closure, according to an Afghan official.

According to the source, the Torkham border crossing has been closed to passengers and vehicles from both Afghanistan and Pakistan following gunfire at the border.

Pakistani media, citing security officials, have reported that the clash occurred on Wednesday, although the cause of the altercation remains unclear. It is said that authorities from both sides are working to reopen the crossing.

Videos from the border area show that nearby markets have also been shut down.

Fawad Ahmed Khan, a member of Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf party, posted a video depicting the border clash and unrest, saying: “Torkham border and nearby markets are closed. Shooting in the area continues.”

So far, the Taliban authorities have not yet commented on the situation.

There have been recurring clashes between the Taliban and Pakistani border guards. In the past, such confrontations have led to gate closures for extended periods.
