Land Mine Explosion Injures 3 Children in Afghan Province

Taliban officials in Nuristan province said at least three children sustained injuries from a land mine explosion in the Kamdish district of eastern Nuristan province.

Sameulhaq Bayan, the head of the information and culture department of Nuristan province on Monday said that a landmine left from past wars exploded in the Kamdish district of the province when children were playing in the farmland.

Local officials have not commented on the health conditions of the wounded minors who have been transferred to Asad Abad provincial hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, in a similar incident in central Ghor province, one child was killed and two others were injured according to the provincial officials of the Ghor. It is believed the unexploded landmines were left from the past wars.

Unexploded bombs left from past wars in different parts of the country occasionally go off, resulting in the death and injury of scores of innocent civilians, particularly children.

Previously also, the explosion of landmines in Nuristan province had killed and injured people including children on several occasions.

As per the existing reports, nearly 606 square kilometers of Afghanistan have been contaminated by mines and unexploded explosives.

With the return of the Taliban to power in August 2021, and the end of the 20-year-long war against the American occupation, the unexploded explosives and landmines left from the past wars, the people of Afghanistan are still victims of explosions, among other critical issues.
