Afghan acting minister in Kazakhstan calls for investment in Afghanistan

Nooruddin Azizi, the acting minister of industry and commerce, led a delegation to Kazakhstan and asked for improved trade and transit between the two countries while promoting investment in Afghanistan.

Azizi said at an event that these “gatherings are good opportunities” for trade and economic development.

“I believe these meetings provide a proper opportunity to improve our trade and business engagement,” he added.

This comes ahead of a three-day forum between Kazakhstan and Afghanistan which will begin on Thursday, August 3-5, in the capital city of Astana.

According to the statement, around 200 delegations of different economic sectors from Afghanistan will attend, while on the Kazakh side, the delegation includes the minister of trade and integration, logistics firms and second-level banks will also be attended.

The two countries’ trade ties are still being strengthened, the Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized. Kazakhstan hopes to increase bilateral trade with Afghanistan over the $988 million it reached in the previous year.

Meanwhile, the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI) representatives said they are attempting to connect with China via Kazakhstan.
